Is it too early? Probably, but I am over summer! Here are the patterns I plan to make this fall… the fabrics are mostly tbd, though I will use up at least a few of the knits I got from fabric.com. I also have a fab damask doubleknit from Joann’s (it was hidden on an endcap) and two (count them!) leopard print doubleknits. My love for animal prints is still there, so I’d better use them up before they go out of style again!

Yes, these are all knit or doubleknit patterns. I want to focus on knits this fall, as I probably wear my knit garments 4x as often as the wovens. They just suit my lifestyle better – I like to be dressy, but I need to be able to breathe freely. I’ve been keeping track of what I wear, and it’s pretty much all knit dresses all the time (with cardigans – so at least that love is justified!) Luckily the fall offerings from the big 4 pattern companies were really heavy on knits this year. Of course, I’m sure some woven dresses will sneak in there – I do need formalwear, and knits don’t cut it for that (other than the occasional matte jersey.) I would also like to make a vintage pattern or two, but I haven’t gone through the pile. What am I not making? Jackets. I just don’t wear them, as I prefer sweaters. And goodness knows I don’t need any suits!
I’m thinking about going ahead and starting the Vena Cava dress. My recent success with slim silhouettes has made me less afraid of the proportions of that one! I pulled out the instructions for the sleeveless Tracy Reese design, and it is way complicated, with stays and a lining. I am just not up for that right now – the end of summer has me a bit frazzled! I have an abstract sort of animal print that I’m thinking might be nice for the pattern.

As a dress fanatic, I love all your picks for your fall wardrobe. I just made the Vena Cava, it’s easier than it looks like it might be so a good one to do if you are feeling frazzled but still want an interesting project. It is very fitted at the back, but looks great when it’s all finished.
It’s not too early! While I haven’t started on my fall sewing yet, I have all the fabrics and patterns picked out. I just have to finish some year-round sewing first (late 30s overalls for gardening and manual labour) and then I’m getting started on my autumn/winter list.
I love Vogue 1257. Great to see a wrap dress with a high crossover on the bodice. It’s definitely on my winter list.
These are all great- they will be very flattering on you! Does animal print ever really go out oif style? I hope not!
I haven’t started my fall sewing yet because it will be hot here until late October when it will be, then, only cool. However, I have several of the same patterns picked out that you do for fall. I look forward to seeing what fabrics you use. You always have the best taste.
I had also gotten several of the patterns you have (V1257, V1258, B5674), and I totally agree with you regarding knits being the practical choice. I haven’t sewn many knits until now because I just recently got a cover stitch machine and I was very disinclined to hem a knit or finish an edge using a regular machine (call me a snob!). I’m also keen on trying the jeans pattern (B5682) and I really loved the look of this jacket (B5685).
The patterns were super cheap, $4 each with the Club BMV sale. I haven’t ever used simplicity patterns – are they good? Do they have sales? Because the listed price is quite high.

I’m gettting really anxious for cooler weather and have been spending a lot of time thinking about fall and winter sewing. Vogue 1252 is definitely on my list. I bought some of that gray and black damask doubleknit from Joanns (why don’t they sell more printed doubleknits?!) and was thinking about using it for Butterick 5672. Where did you find leopard doubleknits?
