I always seem to catch something on long flights. This time, I managed to get a sinus infection on the way over, and a nasty cold on the way back. Marc has the same thing, and we’ve been pretty much useless all week. I’ve only worn actual clothes twice since returning. Standing up too long makes me dizzy, so I have not even set foot in my sewing room.
But! I did cast on for a new shawl.
The pattern is Damask (Ravelry link,) and the yarn is Madelinetosh sock in Pop Rocks. This yarn is actually called “fine sock” and has more yardage than the current base yarn used by Madelinetosh. So far I’m loving the pattern – It’s just what I wanted, a bit of detail but not too awful. I also love following charts for some reason. I’m making the size small, because I find that I am a rather loose knitter, and use more yardage than is generally called for in a pattern.
While I was in Italy I wore kerchiefs or shawls every day. This inspired me to cast on for some of my own. I have made two triangle shawls before, and I never wear either in the traditional way – but I love them turned around like a kerchief!
Wow, that’s going to be beautiful! I made a triangle shawl once and find that I never wear it even though I love the color and how it turned out. I think I need some additional styling ideas…
Hope you feel better and can’t wait to see your shawl!
Oooh, I love the Damask pattern and the delicious hot pink yarn!! Get well soon 🙂
Oh, I loved making Damask. (I’m the opposite though – I always follow the written directions, not the charts! Memorizing the symbols is too confusing for me, lol.) I made the medium and actually felt that it was a tiny bit small for my taste, but then, I’m used to huge shawls and I tend to be a tight knitter. (I always wear them kerchief-style as well.) That’s such a fun colour – I’d love to make it again in a non-variegated yarn.
That’s too bad about your colds. The shawl looks gorgeous already. Can’t wait to see the end product.
I’m so glad you’re back to some knitting! Not that I mind the sewing…!
So glad to see you knitting again.
Great to see some knitting by you again! 🙂
So sorry you’re sick; get better soon. On the upside, look how productive you’re being! That’s going to be a gorgeous shawl.
My Blog
Sorry to hear your are sick — it’s allergy & sinus infection season here too (and I don’t see any leaves or pollen yet!!).
Your shawl is going to be gorgeous. I looked up the pattern as it wasn’t one I was familiar with, and I can see why you love it. Can’t wait to see how you style it with some of your clothes!
Feel better soon! I’m glad to see you knitting. Damask is high in my queue!
