First of all: an adorbs photo of Leon with the Smock tunic (I don’t know why it’s called smock when there is no smocking.)
He’s very sad that I wouldn’t let him eat the yarn ball. I haven’t had time to work on this in 2 days, but it’s going well. The good news is that as of today I am done with my job! They held a farewell reception for me, which was really nice. I only cried twice (not bad for me!) I will miss so many of my choir members and musicians, but it was time to move on. I have 26 students at home now!
I was having a bad morning though, as today at Panera bread I bit down on something and broke off a crown at the root – ugh. I have some major dental work upcoming, though I was hoping to push it off for a little while longer. It’s so expensive – but we will manage! My teeth have always been iffy because of a genetic condition that causes weak enamel, so I’ve been through this before!
Speaking of youth… I turned 30 this past week! People keep asking me if I’m upset about it, and the answer is always no – I am only upset that we live in a culture where I’m supposed to be upset, but a man turning 30 wouldn’t bat an eye. I love who I am now and wouldn’t choose to go back at all. I see no reason why a woman can’t be fabulous at any age, you know? I did go to a friend’s bachelorette party last night, which made me feel briefly old – we went to a club and I absolutely did not have fun (I had fun at a dinner and I’m happy for my friend, but I am not at all a club person.) Then I remembered that I didn’t like clubbing when I was 21 either. I went home and went to a small neighborhood bar with Marc and his friend John instead, and that was so much more fun for me!
I’m still ordering yarn for the hoodie – I’m considering Elann highland chunky, which is nice and light – I made a sweater that I adore from it already. I’m a very indecisive buyer, and tend to agonize over a purchase for days before finally doing it, which is why I internet shop so much… no having to make quick decisions!
happy belated b-day! (i’m turning 30 this year too – and i have to say that your attitude about it is so much better than mine! it’s not because i’m a woman – i’m just prematurely bemoaning the loss of my 20s!)
Happy belated birthday! And 30 is great! I’m 36 and that’s great too 😉
Happy birthday! I turned 30 in December and I’ve never been better 🙂
I love elann highland chunky! I made the owls sweater out of it for my little daughter and it turned out beautiful.
Happy Birthday!!
Happy Belated Birthday!!! I will be 39 next month. Your kitty is so pretty. My cat looks just like him.
Happy belated birthday!
Oh! Happy Birthday for yesterday. I have the attitude that you don’t grow a year older, just a day older! Birthdays are just an excuse to have a party just for me!!! Hope you had a great day and that you have a wonderful year to come! I’m always so impressed with your work.
Happy Belated Birthday! 30 was a great year for me.
Ugh on the dental work. I’m having the last of the three crowns I had to have done in a few weeks – had to wait on this one b/c to let the implant acclimate, etc.
I’ll have to check out the Smock tunic. Which yarn is that? It looks like the same color I’m using for Broderie (RYC Cashcotton 4 ply in “Jet”.)
Happy Birthday! I just celebrated mine on the 13th and turned 30 as well! And I too have weak tooth enamel and have had all kinds of work done. I so understand what you mean about the frustration and embarrassment related to that! Ugh!! My husband often jokes he should have been a dentist. Or that its the dental hall of fame in my mouth, etc etc. I know some people who brush once a day and thats it, no problems with their teeth. I brush three times a day or more and floss constantly and its like fighting a losing battle! My mom had it as well. Sucks. Totally feel ya.
I’m all for being proud of how old you are. I don’t hesitate to state my age – I’m 46 and I’m not going to lie about it. I love having birthdays and I make sure those around me don’t forget them!
Happy Birthday! I’m turning 40 in September, and I’m okay with that, too. I think it’s all about being happy with where you are in life; the people who struggle with getting older are those who aren’t happy about what they’ve done with their lives to this point.
Happy belated birthday! I was 32 this year – and so far my 30’s have been great! I can never understand why we are supposed to dread turning 30!
Happy Birthday!!
30 is a good age, no matter what people think. I agree with you about how people react to certain ages regarding women.
I love the color you picked for your Smock Tunic. Looks very spring-summerish.
Happy birthday! I think you have the right attitude about age. It’s just a number, after all!
That yarn is a gorgeous shade of blue.
Happy Belated Birthday!
I, too, celebrated my bday last week. I had a fantastic week and I enjoy being a year older…I’m just a bit more wiser. lol!
What an exciting time for you! A birthday, a big career move…congrats!
I completely understand about the turning 30 thing. Though I won’t turn 30 for a little bit yet, it always annoys me the way women are conditioned to be afraid of it. Aging is actually a beautiful process the way I see it; I wouldn’t want to go back to 21 for the life of me.
Happy birthday! You are such a prolific knitter! The turquoise wool is such a lovely colour!
Happy birthday! I’m turning 30 next year and can only hope to have as good an attitude about it. 🙂 Sorry to hear about the tooth, hope it doesn’t hurt too much.
Happy birthday! Bummer about the tooth, but congrats on being done with your old job.
Happy Birthday! And happy end of job. Reading about your transition the past few months has been so encouraging to me. I lost my job in January, and have not been able to find one yet. I’m debating opening my own business (similar to what you do, but not in music), and I don’t know if I have the courage to try it. I’m glad yours has been such a success!
I’m also sorry to read about your tooth — I hope it’s not too painful!
That yarn looks beautiful – I love the color! Happy belated birthday, too! And I have to agree with you about going to clubs. I’ve never enjoyed them and much prefer hanging out at a neighborhood dive where you can actually talk to people.
Happy Birthday! 30 is a fabulous age! I turned 30 this year myself and couldn’t agree more. Enjoy your birthday and congrats on being brave enough to take the next step in your career. . it is really paying off for you. Cheers!
*~*HapPy BiRtHdAy!!*~ 32 years young here and loving it! Enjoy this new chapter in your life and know that you are also a great inspiration to so many of us! I absolutely love your blog and find it so inspiring, especially when I’m in a bit of a knitting slump.
You Rock!!
Happy belated Birthday!
Happy birthday! I hope it was a fantastic one
Happy Birthday! You don’t look your age!
I have the same genetic enamel problem so I totally sympathize about dental costs
I turned 43 last week and know just how you feel, I’m loving where I am now, why would I go backwards?
Hi,
The Peruvian Highland Chunky has nice texture, but don’t let the colors on the web fool you. I got a lot or redwood for a sweater, and while it is nice, it is definitly not as bright as in the photo. I got chestnut for the edging, and in person it looks more the way the lichen looks in the photo.
Elann is still great though! their customer service people are wonderfull!
