Why my husband is the greatest…

Because he heard me complaining about how much I dislike stockinette, and how many patterns I avoid because of it.  The next thing I knew, this appeared in our house:

Bought with a 50% off coupon, with a promise (from me) to make a little blanket for his sister’s upcoming new baby.  I’m very interested in trying this out, and seeing what possible uses I can come up with for it!  It looks crazy complicated.

I have seen one in action before, so I get the concept.   Maybe I can finally make Marc the Harry Potter scarf he has always wanted, but that I have always claimed was incredibly boring?  I know people who use them to knit the stockinette parts of regular knitting patterns as well.

I’m going to set it up on the dining room table to try out, but if I decide to keep it set up somewhere it will need to be in the attic (fortunately our attic is not scary and has lots of light.)

  1. How fun! I want one just to the stockinette for the purses I knit and then felt.

Felting makes all that time knitting and purling seem like a waste. lol

  2. Oooh, I’m so tempted to ask for this for christmas. I always drool over it at the store. Can’t wait to see what you can do with it!

  3. You are BLESSED to have such a thoughtful man in your life!!! I saw the very same machine and held the very same coupon in my hands…but I’ve got 3 little boys waiting for new Legos for Christmas, so it’ll have to wait!

Please post your thoughts about how it works!

  4. What a wonderful husband!! I’m looking forward to seeing what you make with your knitting machine. Hm… did hubby consider how fast you might go through yarn with this thing?!

  5. I’ll be really interested in seeing how it works and hearing your impressions. I considered one for a while, but I love knitting stockinette, don’t much like gadgets, and really don’t need to knit any faster!

  6. Oh, wow! How sweet of him. If I were you, I’d go to town making sweater dresses and giant clapotises… I love wearing sweater dresses, but can’t stomach the thought of all that stockinette (although I knit an equivalent amount, or more, of ribbing in my Flicca cardi). And I have a bunch of Rowan Tapestry waiting to become a Clap, but just have not felt the motivation to actually cast on for that giant stockinette parallelogram thus far.

  7. so this is why i think we were officially seperated at birth :

I was online this morning looking on Joanns – these are currently on sale for 100$ On the 7th Joann has a 50% off coupon that goes into affect. I have a 50$ gift card that I havent used. I have been drooling over this for ages… oh dear Sweet Apples..
