First, the bad news… we didn’t get the house. The owner was completely unwilling to budge on the house, which is priced too high we believe. This is the danger of living in a historic district… the housing boom caused a lot of people (who watch too much HGTV) to try to flip older houses. They paid too much and now that the housing market is going down they are stubbornly trying to stick to their prices… the house has been on the market at the same price for 8-9 months with no serious offers besides ours, but so it goes… I’m seeing this sort of thing more and more lately. We will not overpay, and I’m not willing to buy a house we don’t love. So we continue searching. I’m not going to lie… I’m very disappointed. But… life must go on, and sooner or later we are bound to find something, even if this is starting to feel like a never ending search.
I’ve never been much of one for following themes or knit a longs, mostly because I’m way too scatterbrained to stick to something. But when I heard that March was National Crochet Month… well, that I can get behind (especially since I was planning some projects anyway!) I’ve started to wind up the yarn for Babette, and I also started Joy, from Rowan 41.
The yarn is Rowan 4-ply cotton in Aegean, a color that I have always loved and wanted to use. Unfortunately, I can’t knit with fingering weight cotton – I knit loosely, and I can’t get gauge even on the tiniest of needles. Crochet, however, is made for use with thin cottons. I’m trying to create a 32″ size, since I think the 34 might be large. We’ll see how that goes.
My knitting goals for this month are to finally finish the pair of Anastasia socks I started ages ago, and to start the feather and fan cardi in this pretty ocean blue Silky Wool I bought awhile back. I think it will look like ocean waves in the blue yarn… so pretty! I haven’t knit with Silky Wool in a year, but I’ve stockpiled three colors of it. If I don’t start using it soon I’ll have to get rid of it, and that would be a shame since I love it!

I am so sorry that you did not get the house. The right one (at the right price!) will come along, and until then you can distract yourself with crocheting and knitting. 🙂 I agree that the color of the yarn you are using for Joy is lovely. Enjoy!

Bummer about the house. I’m seeing the exact same problem in our area, which is not a historical district by any means. People are just having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that their houses are worth less than they were a year or two ago. You guys are smart though by not letting your emotions cloud your good judgement. You never know…that house’s owner might approach you in a few months and ask if you’re still interested once he comes to grip with reality.
Sorry to hear about the house, but I think your philosophy is right on. Hold out for the house you love at the right price! You will find it eventually.

Who knows, these sellers might even be willing to sell you the same house at a better price when they wake up down the road? Happened that way for friends of ours. That is such a pretty color! National Crochet Month? Hmmm…maybe I’ll have to put some more crochet into my planning this month.
Bummer on the house, but please stick to your guns and don’t overpay … that’s part of the reason we are all in this spot – because people were willing to overpay and flip it, thus raising the prices for everyone. We didn’t get 3 of the ones we really, really wanted, but in the end it worked out for the best because we got the best of the lot at a GREAT price. Hang in there, it will happen. Sorry to hear about the house! I’m sure all these people will come to their senses (they’ll have to) soon enough, and you will find a house at an even better price. House hunting is a very frustrating process though, to be sure.

sorry about the house, but that just means that there is a better one on the way. i did not know it was crochet month. now i just have to find something to crochet!
That’s too bad about the house! You’ve probably heard this a few times, but it might turn out for the best! When we were house hunting a few years back, we didn’t get a house that we’d really liked and were bummed…but then a few weeks later, we found one that we LOVE LOVE LOVED for a much better price. We talk all the time about how lucky and happy we are that the other house didn’t happen!
You will find the perfect house for you! We went through the same thing when buying our first home. It was hard, but we ended up with more house than we originally expected.

Oh, I’m sorry about the house. We put in about ten offers before we finally got ours. It can be pretty frustrating, especially if you love the house. On a bright note, the owner may yet change his/her mind. There is a house in our neighborhood that’s been on the market for a year and a half and the owners (who had put a lot of money into it) wouldn’t lower the price. A couple who were renting on our street wanted to buy it, but it was priced too high. The owners finally came down on the price and the young couple bought it. Keep an eye on that house; you may also get lucky.
