Pattern: Tree Jacket by Zephyrstyle
Yarn: Valley Yarns Colrain in Chestnut, 9 balls for the size small knit to a tighter gauge
Needles: US 6
Notes: I love this sweater! I wasn’t sure about it until after blocking. Colrain grows significantly after blocking, so I knit the 34″ size to a tight gauge (5 st/in), and I ended up with a sweater that is 32″ around the bust. It fits perfectly! I love the slightly spiral lace on the body, which allows the sweater to fit almost like it has waist shaping (I chose not to add any.) The cowly neck was not working until after blocking either, but now it is just perfect! I made my sleeves 1 inch shorter than the pattern calls for in the garter stitch section, figuring that they would grow, and I think that was a wise choice. They would have been long otherwise.
If you are making this sweater, I would recommend a pretty drapey yarn. Colrain is a merino/tencel blend, and works pretty well for this purpose. An alpaca would be nice as well (but I am allergic) but I would not knit it out of a straight wool. It needs a softer yarn in order to hang nicely.
I can see this sweater getting a lot of wear this fall. The color is actually darker than it appears in these photos, but the dark brown/red is very hard to capture. My hair is also not actually that orange, my camera just loves to wash things out!
Oooh, the spiraling on there is really neat. That looks lovely.
That’s really cute! Now I want one, too. 🙂
Wow, it looks amazing–congratulations!
Very flattering! I may take a second look at this pattern after seeing yours.
It’s BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Lovely! I may add this to the (ever increasing) queue after all…
This new sweater looks great! Thanks for the tip about the yarn.
it looks beautiful!!! perfect fit, you’re such a talented knitter!!!
This sweater looks better now that I have seen another knitter knit it! I didn’t like it so much when I first looked at it. It is beautiful!!
Congrats on finishing something! It seems like everyone in blogland (including myself) is having a hard time finishing anything, so I am impressed with anyone who can crank out a complete project!
oh wow that looks gorgeous on you. i didn’t particularly love the pattern before, but your knit up version has given it new life in my book. Great job
Oh that’s cute! I didn’t really look all that closely at that one, but I think I’ll take a second look.
Wow, it looks great on you! I absolutely love your version!
That looks amazing! Thanks for the tips on yarn selection. I found the same thing on Juliet (needing a drapier yarn.)
Perfect for fall!
That turned out great!
It’s really a fantastic pattern — or it looks that way on you, now. I wasn’t as enamored of the modeled shots at Zephyrstyle, though I liked them too. Well done!
I agree with everyone else: I hadn’t even considered making this until I saw yours. It’s fabulous! I love it!
It’s beautiful. I wasn’t considering adding that to my queue, but your FO makes me want one.
It looks beautiful!! You are a very fast knitter 🙂
It looks lovely! Now I have to add it to my queue.
wow..stunning. I’m off to look at the pattern.
sigh… so pretty!
That looks great! I’m amazed that there’s no waist shaping. I might have to add this one to my queue.
I wonder why it’s called a jacket though.
Very pretty! I love the spiralling lace, too!
awesome! I think your’s is the first finished Tree jacket I’ve seen. I’m struggling with my sleeves. Garter is getting very boring and my attention is going elsewhere.
How did you block your neck out?
That is so cute. I love the garter texture of the top part next to the movement of the lace. Lovely.
Beautiful! It makes me want to cast on for mine right now, even though I felted the yarn I meant to use for it. Damn.
You are a knitting angel! I think that is smashing. Of course I have this pattern, but am not as speedy as you.
It’s beautiful! I can’t wait to knit a Tree Jacket myself now.
Wow! Turned out beautifully! Your knits always make me want to buy more yarn and patterns. *sigh*
That really does look great. This pattern didn’t really speak to me and while I probably still won’t knit it (I hate cowl necks), seeing yours does make me think twice. 🙂
It looks perfect!
Very nice. I think yours has convinced me I like this pattern.
That is so cute and the color looks great on you.
It’s gorgeous! I think I like your version even better than the pattern photo. And that color is wonderful on you.
I love it! Oh, now I definitely want to make this pattern. It has such a flattering shape but it also looks very comfortable and relaxing!
Very cute! Great job!
beautiful! I’ve seen this pattern several times and passed over it, but now that I see yours I’m considering it again!
What do you think of Cotton Fleece for this pattern?
A perfect fall sweater! Now if only the Fall would ever arrive…
You know, I didn’t like this sweater until I saw yours! Wow, you did a great job! Now I must go make this one. 😉 I just love all your knits!
I’m getting ready to knit this, but I’m rethinking my yarn choice now – Cascade 220? Hmm…I’ve been wanting to do the minimalist cardigan too – maybe I’ll use the Cascade for that instead.
Yours looks GREAT!! I love that color!
That is one fabulous sweater and I love the design of it. It looks fantastic on you.
I have had this in my queue since it first came out, but yours is the nicest I have seen so far. I really think I will have to try it in the Colrain – it looks like a lovely yarn. Thanks for your comments about drape for this pattern!
OOOOOOH! I want one!!! I guess I’ll have to cast on for the fall!!
Love the color you chose…and it looks great on you!!
Work it!
Ooh, I’m behind on my reading – so LOVE the tree jacket & the juliet is very sweet. I am thinking this little jacked could be worn over a long sleeve button down to make a quirky business casual look to give it more wear into the fall. Just a thought b/c you said you were trying to finish it to wear this summer – I haven’t started mine yet & I’m planning to wear it that way, so I hope it works!!
Gorgeous! And it looks great on you!
