FO: Tree Jacket

Pattern: Tree Jacket by Zephyrstyle

Yarn: Valley Yarns Colrain in Chestnut, 9 balls for the size small knit to a tighter gauge

Needles: US 6

Notes:   I love this sweater!  I wasn’t sure about it until after blocking.  Colrain grows significantly after blocking, so I knit the 34″ size to a tight gauge (5 st/in), and I ended up with a sweater that is 32″ around the bust.  It fits perfectly!  I love the slightly spiral lace on the body, which allows the sweater to fit almost like it has waist shaping (I chose not to add any.)  The cowly neck was not working until after blocking either, but now it is just perfect!  I made my sleeves 1 inch shorter than the pattern calls for in the garter stitch section, figuring that they would grow, and I think that was a wise choice.  They would have been long otherwise.

If you are making this sweater, I would recommend a pretty drapey yarn.  Colrain is a merino/tencel blend, and works pretty well for this purpose.  An alpaca would be nice as well (but I am allergic) but I would not knit it out of a straight wool.  It needs a softer yarn in order to hang nicely.

I can see this sweater getting a lot of wear this fall.  The color is actually darker than it appears in these photos, but the dark brown/red is very hard to capture.  My hair is also not actually that orange, my camera just loves to wash things out!
