A use for swatches!

I have found a home for some of my old swatches.

Meet our new coffee table, driven home from IKEA in Chicago!  I’m still playing around with it, trying to decide what to display.

I finally got a chance to take progress shots of my WIPs in the daylight!

I finally got to separate the sleeves on my tree jacket.  I tried it on and it fits well, and I know it will get a bit larger when I wash it.   I accounted for this by knitting to a smaller gauge.   Colrain is a great yarn, but it does bloom considerably on washing.  So far I like the neck best slightly rolled, but we will see how it looks once it is done.

My Danica scarf is at 32″ after nearly 2 full balls of SWS.  I love the width of this scarf, which looks as though it will be perfect for the coming winter!

And… a better picture of the colors of my socks.  I’m not sure you can tell, but I have turned the heel already and decreased for the gusset.  It’s smooth sailing from here on out!   My scarf is too big to carry now, so this is my purse knitting.  I’m knitting these on size 0s, since I am a loose knitter and I have heard that socks wear better if knitted more tightly.  I am hoping that my new found  love of stockinette socks will allow me to actually use up some sock yarn – these are super quick! I think I just get frustrated with difficult sock patterns, since they are, after all, going on my feet.  I feel like I’m cheating on my sweater projects if socks take too long.

Happy labor day to all!  I’m going to be working today, since I’ve been off for a week, and I’ve got to get everything nicely caught up!  On Thursday we are going to be driving to Iowa for the wedding of our friends Jeff and Kathy.  This should be the end of wedding season – I have been to more this year as a guest than I have any year in my life, not to mention my own!

  1. Wow. Stumbled across your blog while looking for finished pictures of Rusted Root… and then couldn’t leave, I was too drawn in. Everything you make looks wonderful, and I am amazed at how much you have made in such a short time!

  2. What a great way to use your swatches! 😛 I just throw mine back in my yarn bins when I’m done using them. But then mine are mostly stockinette..
I also like how Marc is ‘visible’ with the Legos. 😉

  3. Love that coffee table! Is it easy to switch out what’s in there? I’d probably be changing it all the time. After seeing yours I’ll definitely be knitting Danica with SWS.
