Weekends are always busy (and therefore not really weekends) for me, but I did still manage to accomplish a lot on my knitting! The back of Agnes is nearly complete, and I’ve added 4 rows to Danica.
I’m trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with my work schedule. I only have 1 day off a week, and I really need 2… preferably together. I want to rearrange and get Thursdays off. I am still stressed, but I am trying to do what is expected of me!
Ok… enough about life! The Knitting Garden has pics up from the new Rowan mag. I wish I could give a review, but the pictures are so dark… and this seems to be true for the last several Rowan Mags (the last one was better.) I always have trouble seeing the clothes. There are a few sweaters I think I like, and then there are a few “oh my gods.” Unfortunately, the pictures of those are clear.
It’s like… they just knitted sacks (or in the case of the second, knitted a blanket and then pinned it on.)
There are a few I think I like though, but I will have to wait for the magazine.
I find all the crazy things they throw on with the designs to be distracting. I shouldn’t have to say “OK, what’s the knitted item in this picture.” And also… enough already with unnecessary belting of sweaters. All it does is make me think that your sweater doesn’t fit, and even if it does I cannot tell how the sweater is shaped.
There… that’s my rant for the day… but I withhold judgment on the new Rowan Mag. I cannot tell from preview pics.

I’ve looked at your FOs on Ravelry and read your profile there. It’s amazing the things you accomplished in the short time you’ve been knitting. I have to say that you’re a “natural born knitter.”
Who’s idea was it to bring pack the 80’s, and can we get a posse together and go after them?
I’m with you 100% on the Rowan styling.
Also, have you noticed that it’s the yarn manufacturer patterns that tend to be ridiculously enormous? To me it screams out that they were wanting a pattern that used two dozen balls of x yarn.
I got my copy of Rowan 42 today. I’ve only had a quick flick through but it’s better than that preview suggests. I think there’s a good range of patterns although there are too many in heavier weight yarns for my liking. There are a lot of patterns featuring Cocoon which is a new yarn.

Wow, you’re really trucking along on Agnes. I love your Montego Bay scarf, BTW. I’m not too inspired by the Rowan preview – but as you say, it’s difficult to tell. I used to be a serious Rowan fan – I’d buy all the magazines – but not so much lately.
Ok that’s Danica in SWS is making me want to try entrelac. Beautiful!
I know what you mean about the Rowan magazines. I love the little knit world they create, with caravans and mossy forests, bedsits and castle ruins, but from their pictures I have a hard time figuring out: a. what the garment is; or b. how to insert the aforementioned caravan-wear into my daily life. Good for inspiration, though.
Have you seen the Jo Sharp catalogue? Some of the same feel as the Rowan, but you can actually see the garment (and get a sense of the body beneath the garment!)
What yarn are you using for Danica? It’s so pretty!
Yeah, the knitted sacks look pretty odd. I’m looking forward to the new interweave, myself.
Danica is beautiful. I love the way the SWS is working with the pattern.
I don’t get belted sweaters in general. I mean, why? To me, it just looks wrong.
