Pattern: Bedjacket from “Knitting Lingerie Style”
Yarn: Brown Sheep cotton fleece in Peridot, 4.5 skeins
Needles: US 6 for the body, Size F Crochet hook for the edging.
Notes: After many tears, I’ve finally finished the bedjacket to my satisfaction. I chose to knit the 2nd size on smaller needles, because I wanted a size in between the two smallest, and also because I prefer cotton fleece knitted to 5 st/in. I left out the chain stitch called for in the finishing, because I could see that it would be tedious and I didn’t see that much of a difference. I love the picot edging, which made such a difference in the finished look of the jacket. Seaming this baby was a nightmare. It was knit in 9 separate pieces. I am very proud of my seaming here, especially on the armholes. Finally – non bumpy armholes! I am using a shawl pin as a closure, because I do not like it fastened on the side. The collar design, which uses short rows for shaping, is just beautiful. I really think this jacket would be flattering to all different body types. The pattern was (as far as I could tell) error free. Thanks to all who helped me with my mid-project doubts – it’s turned out really well, thanks in part to all your suggestions! There’s not much else to say, just more pictures!
WOW! That bed jacket looks absolutely fabulous on you. Congrats on sticking through the difficult seaming and mid-stitch doubts. It was totally worth it. Now I’m thinking I have to find this book…
Oh. My. God. I LOVE IT! It turned out so much better than I ever thought it would! Better than the book! Gorgeous! If I could find a way to add more exclamation points, I would!
Congrats on such a great look and sticking with it instead of ripping it. I also agree with you that cotton fleece looks better with a smaller gauge.
Now I am bouncing of to see the harlot talk. Hopefully we will scare the bookstore of Powells.
Oh that is so nice!!! The color looks so nice on you and it is such a great sweater. I like the way you are closing it in the front. That is a great option to the side tie and it really doesn’t lose anything as far as the look goes. Great job!
It’s beautiful, and both the fit and color are enormously flattering on you.
And may I just say that your couch is wonderful and soft and squishy-looking? I love a nice couch with a kitty on it.
Who’d have thought Cotton Fleece could look this elegant? I’m very impressed.
It’s so Beautiful! The colour is great on you! I’m glad it all worked out for you.
It did come out beautiful. Nine pieces, though! Nine!??
That looks absolutely fabulous! Wear it joyfully. Makes me think seriously about frogging a cotton fleece top down pullover that I’m fighting with and knitting up a bed jacket. Good to know about the gauge for cotton fleece; I’ll keep that in mind.
i looks so great! you did a really beautiful job and it’s gorgeous on you!
Beautiful! it came out very flattering and worth the trouble I think! It looks so versitile too…I can totally see that with cute jeans as well as dresses and skirts.
So pretty!! I love how it turned out. Great idea to use a shawl pin as a closure.
This is so pretty, and you got it to fit perfectly! And in cotton too – which is definitely the yarn for my kind of weather.
That’s a stunner! The fit seems just about perfect — comfortable and yet elegant, all at the same time. π
This is perfect! I love it. π
I ordered this book from Amazon, and waiting for its arrival.. can’t wait to start the projects inside. π
Wow. It’s really beautiful. I’m glad you stuck with it. I had read your blog when you started this and was curious as to how it would turn out. It turned out very well. I like the shawl pin closure too. I am impressed by how quickly you knitted and assembled it.
Absolutley stunning! It looks gorgeous on you!
wow wee zow wee that is gorgeous!! It is even more fabulous on you then in the book. I am so glad you hung in there. But 9 pieces to seam?!? I will have to live vicariously through you new knitted FO cause I don’t think I could stomach that much seaming
It is beautiful! I think it was very much worth all of your effort into fixing all the quirks. I LOVE it in that color, much prettier than the book. I think if I make it I would use a burgundy or maybe something close to the color you chose. I love green!
Great job!!!
Yay, I’m so glad you finally finished it! It’s beautiful on you, that colour suits you really well. π It came out amazing; bet you’re proud. π And with good reason!!
Well done! π

Wow, that is really lovely. I’m glad you stuck with it. It’s such a beautiful elegant colour too.
The bedjacket and the photograps are beautiful.I admire your persistance in finishing it.
How do you do your seaming in armholes…do you mattress stitch or crotchet them together?
Beautiful!
it is beautiful – glad you stuck it out and finished it – it looks perfect!
Beautiful, just beautiful. It just looks so romantic and soft on you. Love it.
Your bedjacket is just gorgeous (and it looks beautiful on you)! Congratulations on your finishing job. Sometimes when I finish a knit, that’s the last attention it gets – I never wear it. I bet your bedjacket will get a lotΒ a wear. Great job!
It looks gorgeous, and that is such a great color for you.
oh, it’s absolutely stunning! beautiful! the tears were definitely worth it (well, easy for *me* to say, but it does look fabulous).
The jacket is beautiful. I haven’t decided yet whether I’ll make this, since I can’t decide on a yarn/color combo, but your choices were lovely.
Beautiful job! I just love the color on you, too. I want to make this sometime — you’ve provided some great inspiration!
Gorgeous! I love it pinned in front- who needs a tie?
Absolutely stunning. The Bed Jacket looks like it was designed for you. I liked it already in the book but now I want to run to the store to buy some yarn (just what I need, more yarn) and cast on.
It’s beautiful! I won a booklet on vintage bedjackets on ebay that’s been sitting there for about 6months unloved..but this has given me inspiration to knit something out of that booklet π
Beautiful! I thought the book just came out but you’ve already finished a project from it!
Looks lovely! I like the simple shawl pin closure and you really did a fab seaming job this time. Great save and another great photoshoot!
wow that is absolutely beautiful! You did such a wonderful job! I’m always so impressed with your skill!
The bed jacket looks beautiful – I love the color you chose! I bought the book recently and am still deciding on what I should attempt first π
It looks wonderful, well worth the extra time.
FABULOUS! This definitely gives me a reason to want to purchase this book.
Lovely! I’ve had my eye on this book, and your sweater might just put me over the edge to actually buy the thing. The bedjacket looks great on you!
The bedjacket turned out magnificent and you wear it so well! Great job! I enjoy reading your blog.
Sooooo pretty! When the finished object looks like that, I bet you don’t mind there were a few tears earlier on. Your blog is great too.
The Bed Jacket turned out beautifully!! That color is amazing on you as well.
Gorgeous!! I’m determined to make this one myself, but I was unsure about what colour. It’s so great to see yours in green- my favourite! I’m really impressed… loved your lace style retro shrug, too!
Hi,
The jacket looks really fantastic. I’m knitting the same pattern at the moment and was wondering what stitches/technique you used to attach the sleeves because they look great where as my sleeves tend to look a little bumpy.
I would like to get this pattern. Can I get this on line? Where can I purchase it. Thank you
Beverly J Martin
I love the bed jacket where do i get the pattern?
Hey, found this by googling ‘bed jacket knitting pattern’ on the second page of results. I’m kinda stuck on the part of the front pieces where it says ‘Working in St st, increase 1 st at center front edge………..’
What do they mean by ‘center front edge’? The middle of the row? The side that has the V-neck? Also the side seam part, which side? Side with armhole or the side with the V-Neck?
Where can I get this pattern.
